Charleston Miracle Celebrates #ChildHealthDay

The first Monday of October every year is celebrated nationwide as Child Health day. Monday October 7th, College of Charleston celebrated Child Health Day on their Campus.

Charleston Miracle is the largest student-run philanthropic organization at the College of Charleston.  This group raises money year-round for MUSC Children’s Hospital, culminating in Cougarthon, a 10-hour dance marathon event held on campus every Spring. Last year, Cougarthon raised more than $140,000 for patients and families treated at the Children’s Hospital. This year, these students are aiming even higher. This past Monday, Charleston Miracle set up on George Street in downtown Charleston to have students register for Cougarthon. In just a few hours and despite a ton of rain, over 140 students registered. On top of that, more than $10,000 dollars was raised in just one day!

Cougars also participated in fun activities and met some of the Miracle Kids that are treated at MUSC Children’s Hospital. Attendees played cornhole, Jenga, and even had a dance party. They were also able to sign a banner for the new Children’s Hospital, which will be hung on the walls once it opens later in 2019.  Everyone’s favorite part was the special visits from patients Harper Brown and the Farr Triplets, Sarah, Elliott and Kate. If students were lucky enough Harper offered them a piece of candy and a hug!

Cougarthon will be on March 28th, 2020!
